2012 Halibut Regulation

February 2nd, 2012
by Mike

For 2012 the regulations for halibut will be 1 Halibut per day either 45 inches or less or 68 inches and greater.  This is a major improvement from 2011.  Don’t overlook May and early June as prime times to fish given typically good weather and a high abundance of King Salmon combined with great catches of Halibut, Pacific Yellow-Eye and Ling Cod.  We’ll begin to update more frequently as we get closer to the season kick off on May 9th.

Fall/Winter

2011 was a great season:  excellent catches on King Salmon from start to finish, a great Silver salmon season the second half of July through August with some of the biggest Silvers we’ve seen in a few years, many tipping the scales in the mid and upper ’teens,  consistent halibut catches throughout the season and excepting one strong weather system in August, great weather from start to finish.  We’re currently booking dates for the 2012 season.  We’ll begin posting updated catch reports around the 2nd week of May 2012.  Give us a call or drop us an email if you have any questions about Sitka’s exceptional salt water fishing or if you would like to discuss available dates.
